Since today, July 24, is Amelia Earhart’s 115th birthday, I thought I would share news of a Sonoma County writer’s award for a book on women pilots of World War II.

Healdsburg author Jeane Slone was honored as a finalist in the Next Generation Indie Book Awards for historical fiction for the second edition of her book, “She Flew Bombers.”

Here’s how Jeane describes the story:

“The book is about the women pilots during WW II that ferried 77 types of aircraft from the factories to 135 Army bases for the men to fly into combat. There were 1,074 Women Airforce Service Pilots, 38 of whom died in service and never left the United States. The second edition has over 25 historical photo’s.”
