Author Michael Grant comes to Petaluma High School and Petaluma’s Copperfield’s Books Thursday March 8 to talk about his new YA thriller: “BZRK.”

Grant, who previously wrote the GONE series, has teamed up with Egmont Press and media studio The Shadow Gang to put out a cross-media series. It includes an alternate realty game for smart phones and other devices and a web site that offers “the BZRK Experience.”

Grant said on his web-site that his partners and he hope this “transmedia” approach is part of the future of publishing.

As for the book, “BZRK” is set in the near future, where “a conspiracy is afoot to create a perfect and perfectly controlled world. The Armstrong Fancy Gift Corporation is a front for the conjoined Armstrong twins, Charles and Benjamin, and they plot to create their own version of utopia. A shadowy guerilla group known as BZRK forms a nascent resistance movement. Both sides develop sophisticated nanotechnology to achieve their goals.”

Grant will appear at 3 p.m. at the high school and 4 p.m. at the bookstore, 140 Kentucky St. Both events are open to the public.
